Local students well behaved on field trip

As a volunteer at Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, I’ve seen many families from Pahrump come and enjoy our new visitors’ center.

Recently a group of 80 fifth grade students from J.G. Johnson Elementary in Pahrump spent several hours learning about the refuge. They split up into assigned groups to tour the facility, learn about the water cycle, conduct water quality testing, and gain an understanding of the ecosystems of Ash Meadows.

As a former public school teacher, I know how challenging organizing a school field trip can be. These students were well prepared, well behaved and polite, and were totally interested in learning. The group was well organized. Thanks to the teachers and parents who were all instrumental in making the day run smoothly.

We welcome school groups at Ash Meadows! The group from J.G. Johnson is an example of how valuable a school field trip can be.
