Gusty start to weekend expected

Hold onto your hats, a windy start to the weekend is in store for the valley.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory which went into effect today at midnight and runs until 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

During the advisory winds will be blowing in excess of 50 mph.

“The main concern is going to be wind,” said Clay Morgan, National Weather Service meteorologist. “North winds are expected to come down, Pahrump is really susceptible to those north and northwest winds. The winds will peak later in the day today, with peak gusts reaching around 50 mph.”

With the wind advisory, Morgan gave some useful precautions for area residents.

“If you can bring it in, bring it in. If you can’t bring it in, tie it down,” he said. “If you’re going to be driving, watch out for those really strong crosswinds, especially on the east-west roads. Also look out for big clouds of dust all of a sudden producing, knocking visibility down.”

High temperatures will vary wildly over the next several days, with highs ranging from 70 degrees today and up to 90 degrees on Wednesday.

Lows will range from 47 tonight to 59 degrees Wednesday night.

Calmer, sunnier conditions are expected to return Sunday and last through the end of next week.
