The community is invited to come out and decorate its Christmas tree Saturday, Nov. 29 starting at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Pahrump Nugget Hotel and Casino. Later, at 6 p.m., everyone is invited to watch the lighting of the tree. The weather prediction calls for high of 72 and low of 45 and mostly sunny.
Horse lovers and those who ride will be happy that it’s time for the Pahrump Equine Trail Riders Association to start its Saddlebag Santa Trail Rides for charity.
Several rather interesting and unusual events are happening this weekend. Two restaurants, El Vaquero and Tony Larson’s restaurant at the Maverick will close as well as the Maverick Dance Hall &Saloon.
What’s the best thing about Thanksgiving? I know we’re supposed to say it’s all the friends and loved ones gathered around a table groaning with traditional food and all the blessings and thankfulness. Yes, yadda, yadda, whatever. Just admit it — it’s the leftovers. It’s knowing for the rest of the long weekend you can stand in front of an open fridge with nothing but a plate and a fork and come away with the makings of a gastronomic masterpiece. Today, I’d like to share some of my family’s favorites.

It’s cranberry time! The freshest cranberries are available at the market this month and this makes me a very happy gal.
