DVNP celebrates the heat from inside visitor center

DEATH VALLEY, Calif. — The Furnace Creek Visitor Center Auditorium was filled with weather enthusiasts to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the hottest day ever recorded on July 10, 1913. The 134-degree day was penned by Oscar Denton, who took the reading amidst birds falling dead from the sky because of the heat.

A local attorney has filed a complaint against Nye County and its animal control department after she said she was intimidated and harassed by one of the agency’s officers over a county ordinance enacted last year limiting the number of dogs and cats a homeowner can have without a permit.

Woman who set fire to home arrested, charged and released

The former owner of a local horse rescue was arrested this week on charges of animal cruelty and first degree arson after she allegedly set her foreclosed home on fire, killing 17 of her pets.

Tourism board gets $340,000 to market town

The Pahrump Tourism and Convention Council will embark on a number of different projects to promote tourism in the area thanks to the Pahrump Town Board.

Environmental jobs training classes begin July 23

Thanks to a grant awarded to Nye County by the Environmental Protection Agency and administrated by the Nye Communities Coalition Training Program, no-cost environmental jobs training classes are being offered beginning with orientation on July 23 at the coalition campus, 1021 E. Wilson Road.
