Moose Lodge lends a hand to AYSO

American Youth Soccer Region Eight had a fundraiser at the Pahrump Moose lodge that raised $560 for disadvantaged youth.

The lodge had a donation dinner on Sunday where they served barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers.

Ginny Berquist, an administrator for Region Eight, said the money is already being put to good use.

"The money goes for buying uniforms and insurance for kids who can't afford it," Berquist said. "I already allocated some of the money for three kids. I think we can help at least 10 kids with these funds."

The lodge was a little disappointed in the turnout but Berquist said her organization learned a few things for next year.

"If the lodge helps us do this again next year, we now know that Sunday is not a good day for our families," Berquist said. "Maybe next year we can have them help us when we have all our parents already out in one location."

Berquist said the key to raising more money next year will be learning from this experience.

There are approximately 420 children from the ages of 4 through 14 years of age involved at different schools in town. They will play from September 11th through the weekend before Thanksgiving.
