Track: Hornets start the season running at the Meadows Invite
Beatty track is off and running and hoping to be as successful as it was last year.
The girls team took the regional championship last year and then finished sixth at state and the boys team were runner-ups at the regional meet and fifth at state under then first-year coach Ellice Dunsterville.
The Beatty boys track team was off to a decent start and finished in fifth place (47 points) out of six Division III/IV teams at the Meadows Invitational in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Spring Mountain finished in first place (241), The Meadows in second (83) and Calvary Chapel (77) in third. Tonopah was the fourth place team (71).
There were 16 boys teams from Division I, I-A and III and IV.
Senior Enrique Orozco finished in fourth place in the 1,600-meter run (5 minutes, 40.5 seconds).
The boys took fourth place in the 4x100-meter relay (Jhonpaul Adujar, Danielle Castillo, Orozco and Jacob Oseguera) 50.42 and third in the 4x200 relay (Nahum Favela, Jose Moreno, Nate Russell and Julias Taylor) 1:50.01.
Robby Revert took fourth in the shot put (33 feet, 6 inches) and Moreno took eighth (26-01.25). Revert then took third in the discus (79-02) and Moreno took seventh (57-02).
In the pole vault, Russell took second (10-00) and fourth in the long jump (17-05). Then Russell took eighth in the triple jump (33-11.5).
The Lady Hornets finished in fifth place (47) out of five teams in Division III/IV (95), with Calvary Chapel in first (139), Tonopah in second (95) and Andre Agassi in third (79). For the girls there were 16 teams total in Division I, I-A , III and IV.
In the 800-meter run Karina Villanueva finished in fourth place (3:21.2).
Jasmin Pelayo returns to long-distance running for her junior year with the Hornets. She was the 2014 state champion in the 3,200 meter.
She finished in second place in the 1,600-meter run (6:36.77).
The girls took second place in the 4x800-meter relay (Pelayo, Maggie Cathcart, Anel Gamboa and Villanueva) 13:12.93.
In the shot put, Arianna Oseguera took first place (24-02) and Rachael Anderson took fourth (21-01.75).
Oseguera took fifth in the discus (58-09) and Anderson took sixth (58-05).
Cathcart took fifth in the long jump (11-08.75).
