Trojans track runs against bigger schools at Liberty invite

Trojans boys and girls track ran in the Liberty Invitational on Saturday in Las Vegas. There were 15 boys teams and 13 girls teams. The invitational allowed the team to run against some of the best Division I teams in Las Vegas.

Despite having some fierce competition, the boys came up with some decent times.

In the 1,600-meter run, Bryce Odegard finished in first place (4 minutes, 39.36 seconds). Odegard then took fifth place in the 3,200 meter (10:40.07).

Dylan Montgomery finished in fifth place in the 110-meter hurdles (16.37 seconds).

The boys finished in fifth place in the 4x800-meter relay (Sergio Rincon, Cole Goodman, Bryce Odegard and Layron Sonerholm) 9:02.36.

In the discus, Jeremy Albertson finished in sixth place (144-00-00 feet).

Nico Cipollini took sixth place in the pole vault (11-00-00).

The Pahrump girls finished in eighth place (31). The Arbor View girls team finished in first (164), second was Liberty (124.5) and third was Silverado (99).

The top boys team was Silverado (170), second was Liberty (131) and third was Las Vegas (90.5). The Trojans finished ninth (28) points.

The girls had some bright spots, despite going up against the bigger schools. Meghan McDermott finished third in the 100 hurdles (16.93).

In the shot put Caleli Havel put up some good numbers, throwing enough to capture fifth place (31 feet, 3.25 inches). Havel then took seventh in the discus (92-05).

Annabelle Brophy finished in fifth place (4-8) in the high jump and McDermott (4-6).

McDermott also finished second in the long jump (15-3.5) and fifth in the triple jump (32-5).

The following schools were Division I: Silverado, Liberty, Las Vegas, Arbor View, Desert Oasis, Shadow Ridge, Valley and Foothill. The following were Division I-A schools: Desert Pines, Mojave, Boulder City and Pahrump Valley. Lincoln County was the only Division III school. Tonopah and Beatty were the only Division IV teams.
