Softball: Pahrump all-star team takes Las Vegas tourney

For the first time that Pahrump youth softball coach Rich Lauver can remember, a Pahrump youth all-star softball team won a major championship trophy.

“We have gone to this tournament every year as far as I know,” he said. “We have taken the consolation prize but we have never taken the championship. I think this is the best we have ever done.”

The Pahrump U14 all-star team went to a Las Vegas Memorial Day tournament in fast-pitch softball and won it all. The name of the team was the Extreme Heat and they beat two teams from Colorado, an all-star team from Henderson, and another team from the Southwest region.

The team had an impressive 8-0 win in the semifinals and a 9-1 win in the championship game.

“We had to beat the Henderson Havoc team, who were the 2015 Nevada state champions,” Lauver said. “This was a pretty big deal to win a B-level championship.”

There are three levels of play, with A-level being the top level.

Lauver hopes to be an A-level team maybe in the fall.

“So in order to be an A-level team, one needs to win B-level tournaments,” Lauver said. “This was a major step in the right direction.”

Lauver said his team will be playing nearly six tournaments and nearly 40 more games during the summer.
