Boys and girls cross-country take second place at Lake Mead Invite

Trojans boys cross-country runner Bryce Odegard took first place (17 minutes, 17.8 seconds) out of 82 runners to help his team take second place (65 points) out of 10 teams.

The girls team also took second place (76) out of six teams.

The 5,000 meter Lake Mead Invitational course saw 51 teams compete on Saturday morning at Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City.

For the boys, Tech took first (61), Cheyenne took third (76), Lake Mead Christian fourth (97) and Boulder City fifth (110).

The Trojans boys finished as follows: Layron Sonerholm took sixth place (17:58.7), Jacob Cipollini 13th place (19:03.1), Grant Odegard 28th place (19:43.8) and Stephen Thelaner 29th place (19:44.7).

The girls were led by Diamond Sonerholm, who finished in seventh place (22:46.2) out of 56 runners. The other girls finished as follows: Grace Plumb 10th place (23:02.1), Terrena Martin 18th place (24:09.5), Alicia Quiroz 21st place (24:23.8) and Katherine Goodman 31st place (25:56.5).

For the girls, Tech was first (17), Virgin Valley third place (87), Cheyenne fourth place (88) and Boulder City fifth place (101).

The cross-country teams have one more major meet on Oct. 15 before the regional meet on Oct. 28. The next meet is a scheduled league meet and will be the last one of the season.
