Cross-country: Boys and girls take first place at Mojave Weekday

The Trojans boys cross-country team had three runners finish in the top 10 runners out of five teams to win the Mojave Weekday Meet on Tuesday.

Junior Trojans runner Bryce Odegard took first out of 49 runners (16 minutes, 34.88 seconds).

Pahrump finished in first (34 points), Moapa Valley second (42), Western third (90), Virgin Valley fourth (93) and Adelson School fifth (112).

Earlier on Saturday, the boys ran against tougher competition. Bryce Odegard took first place out of 47 runners (16 minutes, 36.6 seconds) at the Moapa Invitational, but it wasn’t enough to elevate the team above third place.

Faith Lutheran took first (33 points), Tech second (57), Pahrump third (73) and Lake Mead Christian fourth (102).

The Trojans girls team finished in first place (35 points) out of five teams at the Mojave Weekday Meet.

Freshman Diamond Sonerholm got her first meet win (22:10) for Pahrump, and she is the fastest runner the girls have had since Stephanie Thelaner, a 2013 graduate. Her best time on a 5,000-meter course was 20:36.8.

Pahrump had four girls finishing in the top 10. Junior Grace Plumb finished third (22:38), freshman Terrena Martin finished ninth (24:12), senior Alicia Quiroz 10th (24:22) and senior Ashley Floyd 12th (24:35).

Virgin Valley finished in second place (47), Moapa Valley third (74), Western fourth (79) and Sunrise Mountain fifth (114).

At the Moapa Valley Invitational on Saturday, the girls finished third out of six teams (83). Tech was first (40), Faith Lutheran second (52), Desert Pines fourth (84), Virgin Valley fifth (106) and Moapa Valley sixth (131).

For Pahrump, Diamond Sonerholm finished in ninth place (22:48.9), Plumb 14th (23:22.6) and Martin 18th (23:45).

The boys and girls both run this Saturday at the Falcon Invitational at Foothill High School at 7 a.m.
