Lady Trojans go 3-3 in three days of play

The Lady Trojans played three straight days of volleyball in a row.

The team started on Thursday of last week at Del Sol and won 3-1. On Friday the team traveled to the Boulder City tourney where they played five games and went 2-3, beating Lake Mead 2-0 and Del Sol again, beating them 2-0.

Trojans Coach Jill Harris was satisfied with her team’s performance.

“There was definite improvement and there is still room for improvement. I was pleased to beat Del Sol twice. On Thursday we played fine in the first two sets and let up in the third, so we had to play a fourth. I would like to see the team work on keeping their intensity up for the entire match. We beat Lake Mead and Del Sol on Friday and then our intensity level seemed to drop again and we proceeded to lose to Basic on our unforced errors,” she said.

On Saturday of the tourney the Trojans faced some tough opposition. Harris was very pleased with the way the team faced the bigger schools.

“Saturday morning we played Arbor View in the morning and played them really well,” Harris said. “I was super happy with their play, effort and intensity. Even though it was a loss for us, it was probably the best we have played up to this point. The girls looked good. They really looked like they were gelling.”

The final game was against the Lincoln County Lynx. The Lynx are a small, scrappy school with a decent record coming into the tourney. They were in some of the same tourneys as the Trojans and did fairly well. The Lynx had a record of 11-7 after the Boulder tourney. Harris felt her team should have beaten them.

“However, when we played Lincoln we came out flat and it showed in the outcome of the match,” she said.

The Trojans played Mojave at home for the start of league play. The game was too late to report on. Pahrump was 10-12 prior to the Mojave game. The Trojans play the Clark Chargers on Monday at 6 p.m. Clark is 7-4 prior to their Thursday game against Cheyenne. The Chargers beat Pahrump 2-0 at the Pahrump Valley Invitational in September.

Harris likes to play in tourneys where the girls have to play above their heads in preparation for league play. She hopes the last tourney has the Trojans ready to play.

“I sure hope the team is ready for Mojave because I am sure they are ready for us,” she said.
