Trojans Pride team finishes second overall at state

The Trojans National Softball Association team had a 4-2 record in the state tournament last week in the state tournament to end their summer season.

The NSA 16 and under softball team, the PV Trojan Pride, played in the Nevada NSA 16U/18U State Tournament at Shadow Rock Park last weekend.

“The Trojan Pride went 4-2 and took second overall,” coach Susan Toomer said by email. “They played a total of 15 hours in 110-degree weather over the two-day tournament.”

According to the coach, the Trojan Pride finished their first day 3-0, but lost twice to the eventual champions on Sunday.

On Saturday, Virginia Weir got the win in the first game against the Blast, 10-3, Krista Toomer got the win against the Waveriders 14-3, Leeanne Kaiwi got the win against the Waveriders 17-3.

Toomer got the loss against the Halos 10-2, Kaiwi got the win in the semifinals against the Saints 7-6, and Gibson got the loss against the Halos 13-1.

“The team fought back in the loser’s bracket on Sunday to beat the Saints to put them into the championship game where they lost to the Halos,” Toomer said.

Jessica Pearson caught all six games for the Trojan Pride. Highlights included many timely hits by a variety of Pride players including a triple by Jackie Stobbe, a home run by Kaiwi and turning a double play to end a rally against the Waveriders.

Members of the team are Adreana Sandoval, Caitlyn Chmiel, Virginia Weir, Kathy Niles, Evandy Murphy, Angel Gibson, Krista Toomer, Jackie Stobbe, Ilianna Morales, Leeanne Kaiwi, Estany Ivy, Jessica Pearson and Kate Daffer.
