Beatty volleyball downs Indian Springs

The Beatty volleyball team converted 15 aces and had a total 32 kills for the win over Indian Springs in three sets, 25-12, 25-17, 25-17.

Hornets coach Steve Sullivan had to make some adjustments to his starting rotation after a key player went down to illness on Thursday afternoon at practice.

“I sent senior Claudia Granados home from practice Thursday and said she wasn’t playing,” Sullivan said. “During warm-ups at practice, I could just tell she wasn’t feeling good. We moved Ari Oseguera from (opposite hitter) to (outside hitter) (Claudia’s spot), and we moved Bridget to (opposite hitter). We ran it as much as we could that Thursday in order to get ready for Indian Springs.”

Sullivan gives his middle hitters credit for helping with the win against Indian Springs (4-2 overall, 0-1 Southern 1A).

“Our two middles Anel (Gamboa) and Karina (Villanueva) each had six kills,” he said. “Karina also had four aces while Anel had four digs on defense.”

The Hornets (10-1, 1-0) overall had 32 kills and Lexi had 27 assists.

Defensively, Sullivan believes his girls are improving.

“Our defense is getting better and our serves improved from Tuesday’s game,” the coach said.

Beatty travels to Beaver Dam (4-1, 0-1) on Friday, with the game starting at 5:30 p.m.

“Our goal for this week is to keep our service errors low and to get more opportunities to attack on offense and to become more efficient with those attacks,” Sullivan said. “We only converted 27 of those 68 attacks to kills.”
