Lady Trojans volleyball falls in five sets ending season

The road to state ended for one Nye County team. The Lady Trojans, the Sunset League champions and no. 1 seed, fell to second-seed Boulder City of the Sunrise League in five sets, 25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 23-25 and 15-11 at the 3A Southern Region playoffs in Boulder City.

The Trojans (23-14, 10-0 Sunset League) dropped the first two sets and then roared back, taking the next two and forcing the rubber match.

“Boulder City (17-19, 7-3) just feeds it to Maggie Roe,” Trojans coach Jill Harris said. But knowing that and dealing with it is two different things.

Roe had 41 kills as the Pahrump defense failed to come up with a solution to her power.

The Trojans’ Alexis Trieb had 11 kills, Koral Hearn nine and Marietta Sobeck seven. Jill Smith had 18 assists.

Boulder City moves on in the tournament and will meet league champion Moapa Valley (25-10, 10-0) at noon at Coronado High in Henderson. The two teams will then take on two Northern teams in the state tournament next week in Reno.

Seniors leaving the team: Jill Smith, Koral Hearn, Alexis Trieb, Bethany Calvert and Isabelle Meza.

Note: Marietta Sobeck is an exchange student and will be returning to Germany.

Congratulations Trojans on a great year and making it that far.
