Two softball players make regional team honors
Trojans softball team received top honors on the all-region team and all-conference teams.
Pahrump secured two places on the first team all-Southern Region team, senior Jordan Egan and freshman Skyler Lauver.
Trojans coach Eli Armendariz said he fought hard for Egan to be the most valuable player, but it was an uphill battle, despite all the team’s coaches knowing her power to hit it out of the park.
“I was a little disappointed that Jordan Egan was not the most valuable player for the regional team,” Armendariz said. “I just think the Boulder City girl that was chosen got more exposure. I have never seen a freshman make the all-region team.”
The coach said that Lauver made it because of her hitting and great defense.
“Cassandra and Rich Lauver deserve a lot of credit for not only helping Skyler but helping our team improve their hitting,” Armendariz said. “The Lauvers worked hard with them with hitting drills and it was great having them.”
Lauver said he will return next year.
“I am sure we will be there next year,” the coach said. “He is there for the right reasons—he is there for the kids.”
Lauver was surprised his daughter was the first freshman to make the region team under Armendariz.
“He (Armendariz) has seen a lot of great athletes go through Pahrump,” Lauver said. “I was surprised and I think it is awesome. Terrena Martin and Skyler scored over 100 runs between them. When you do that you will win games.”
“I feel accomplished,” Skyler Lauver said. “It was a goal to be all-region. I know my hitting was doing well. I struggled on and off during the season. During state though I hit and my defense was there and I think that helped me.”
Four more players made the second team all region: senior Krista Toomer, sophomore Taylor Egan, sophomore Jackie Stobbe and junior Evandy Murphy.
For the all-Sunset League team, the Trojans had six players on the first team: Toomer, Jordan Egan, Taylor Egan, Lauver, Stobbe and Murphy.
Sophomore Jessica Pearson and Jill Smith made the second team all-Sunset League. Four Trojans made honorable mention, junior Amaya Mendoza, freshman Terrena Martin, freshman Samantha Riding and junior Kathy Niles.
