Pahrump … but not us

Nye County plays by two separate rulebooks … one for Tonopah and one for Pahrump … For example, the Tonopah animal shelter has been denied a working volunteer program for over a year now while the Pahrump volunteer program continues its productive work. Those of us ‘up north’ who would like to serve the needy dogs and cats of northern Nye County have been denied this opportunity. County officials explain that the ‘volunteers up north’ need training, but do these same requirements apply to the Pahrump shelter? They do not.

Likewise, if the Pahrump shelter can be put out for private bid, why can’t the Tonopah shelter enjoy the same offer? If Nye County wants to provide equitable governance for all its inhabitants, then it needs to learn a lesson every second-grader already knows: the same rights and rules apply to all!

Thanks and gratitude from SIFPD

The Southern Inyo Fire Protection District would like to send our sincere thanks and gratitude to the many Pahrump businesses and friends who helped us make this year’s fundraiser a great success. Because of your generosity, we were able to exceed our goal for the event and come very close to our goal for the year! Every prize you donated to our auction and raffle, every in kind item you provided, every raffle ticket purchased, every bit of publicity you helped us create was precious to us and greatly appreciated. The funds we raise will help us save lives!

Most kind thanks from us to the Pahrump Valley Times, Pyro Sagas, Pablo Tecopa and the Dusty Butter Band, Spring Mountain Motor Sports, KNYE, Channel 41 KPVM and Channel 31 KPVT, Mountain Falls Golf Club, Valley Electric Association, Pahrump Valley Winery, Grocery Surplus Outlet, Deep Enough Press, Delight’s Hot Springs, Tecopa Hot Springs Resort, Pastel’s Bistro, Shoshone Development, California Land Management, The Amargosa Conservancy, Carlo Roncancio Photography, Black Canyon Raft Tours, Bootleg Canyon Flightlinez, Kiltman Adventures, Grand Canyon Tour and Travel, Gold Creek Films, Marlys Skarry and the Shadow Mountain Quilters, New Light Photo Design, Nancy Good and Paul Barnes, Claire Vaye Watkins, China Ranch, Desert Wood, LeeAnn Conus, Poo Ha Bah, Inyo County Fifth District Supervisor Matt Kingsley and all the many wonderful, cheerful volunteers who gave so much of their time to help our organization succeed, and every single person who bought a ticket, bid in the auction, shopped at the yard sale or dropped something in the collection boot. (And if I have skipped anyone please let me know.)

Thank you, and rest assured that if you’re ever traveling out this way, we’ve got your back.
