NIAA to make small changes in rubric for Division I-A next year

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association met on June 18 for their summer meeting. Of note, the association decided on a compressed spring schedule for next year. The board met and approved a new spring schedule to take the state championships out of the Memorial Day weekend schedule. Memorial Day interfered this year with the title matches falling on May 23 weekend.

Northern Nye sheriff’s radios going digital in July

Nye County sheriff’s deputies in Pahrump, Amargosa Valley and Beatty have now switched from VHF radio frequencies to completely digital radios, the target date to convert radios in Tonopah to digital is July 1, Information Technology Director Milan Dimac told commissioners Tuesday.

Commission partially OKs town fire equipment purchase

Pahrump Town Manager Susan Holecheck was rejected last month on the town’s plan to use its share of a quarter-cent sales tax increase for fire and rescue services, but county commissioners Tuesday signaled a piecemeal approach to such requests, approving $190,000 for a new town pumper truck.

New district schedule kills long-time football tradition

Pahrump Valley High School has been going through some changes lately. The Nye County School District announced in October of last year that all Nye County schools will start on Aug. 11 and get out on May 22. These changes according to the district allow the students to complete the semester prior to Christmas. They said research said it was better for the kids to have the semester all finished before Christmas break. (see PVT Oct. 9, 2013)

4-H sends two sharpshooters to nationals in Nebraska

Pahrump has team of shooters from the Nye County 4-H Club that will be going to the National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska on June 24-29.
