Local musicians volunteer for fundraiser

The HUBB Saloon will host a fundraiser for the Southern Inyo Fire Protection District (SIFPD) on Saturday, June 21, from 10 a.m until 8 p.m. Musicians will donate their time and talents for this upcoming event, which is free to the public.

From 12 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. the Just Us Jazz Trio will play classic rock and jazz. Meri McKee and Derick Jordan will take over at 1:30 p.m. with a mix of classic rock and country.

At 3 p.m. Bob Flaherty, with Meri McKee on flute, will entertain with Celtic/Irish folk music. Starting at 4:30 p.m. Nancy Good and Paul Barnes will play classic rock and country rock.

From 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Craig Hill, organizer of the music for the event, will bring together all the musicians for a jam session and open mic.

The event is to help save (SIFPD) from shutting down their operations due to lack of funds. It needs to raise $40,000 to finish out the 2014 year and prepare for next year. The Fire District covers 1,200 sq. miles including Tecopa, CA. and Shoshone, Calif.

The HUBB will donate a portion of its hamburger sales to the fire district. Refreshments will be available for sale. Donations are also welcome.

Toni Kizzia, treasurer of SIFPD said, “Our local economy depends on visitors, outdoor explorers, birders, campers, hikers, hot springs enthusiasts, eco-tourism and those who drive over to purchase California lottery tickets. Our tiny community can’t carry this one alone. We need help.”

Kizzia continued, “I am asking you to imagine a simple sight-seeing tour, a hike, or a medical condition gone wrong, that might leave you in need of emergency assistance, and no one responding. We need the money to keep our volunteer department open and ready.”

The public can help by supporting the fundraiser as well as donating today by cash or check to: FIFPD, PO Box 51, Tecopa, CA, 92389 or debit or credit card to our PayPal address at sifpd@yahoo.com.

The HUBB is located at 3720 W. Bell Vista Road. For additional information call 775-910-9575.
