If the Trojans boys soccer team needs a win at the end of the season to make the playoffs, then this past week may come back to haunt them. On Monday, the Adelson boys soccer team came to play a game. The Schedule said it was a league game, but the Trojans were confused and believed otherwise.

Game Day: Trojans vs Rattlers

The Trojans take on the Mojave Rattlers in Las Vegas. This will be Pahrump’s true test of what kind of team they have. Mojave is coming off two solid wins. Their first win was against a team called Sky View from Idaho. The Rattlers went up north along with Faith Lutheran to play in a tournament. The team beat Sky View 48-40 in a shoot-out.

GUEST COLUMN: Sheriff’s candidate seeks to dispell rumors

Nye County residents, I think it is time to clarify some of the rumors that are spreading all over the county. Comstock residents want county to tear down burned home

Residents living in Pahrump’s Comstock community say they have begged, pleaded and done just about everything to convince Nye County officials a home that burned this spring is a safety and health hazard to residents in their neighborhood.

DA’s Report

• Angel David Uribe was charged on Sept. 8 with burglary, burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon, attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon, battery with use of a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm and possession of a controlled substance.

Youth-made films to be showcased at local festival

The Pahrump Film Festival (PFF) will hold its sixth annual showcase of short and feature films on Saturday, September 20th at the outdoor theater of K-7 Pizza and International Cuisine. Pizza and Indian food are available for purchase. The festival begins at 8 p.m. The event is free to the public.

County to open bids for assisted living center

Bids for the purchase of six acres of county land at 1683 E. Calvada Blvd., where a developer wants to build an assisted living facility, will be considered when Nye County Commissioners meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at commissioner’s chambers at 2100 Walt Williams Dr. on the Calvada Eye.

The Lady Trojans soccer team won its fourth game in a row and its first league game against Mojave, 8-0. The Trojans scored five goals in the first 15 minutes of the game.

Hornets get a win with their new coach

James Robertson is the new football coach at Beatty. Last year he was the assistant coach under Leo Verzilli so he is no stranger to the territory and before that he was teaching up at Round Mountain. Robertson teaches special education at the high school. This year he will coach football in the fall and baseball in the spring.

Site development plan requirement delays RPC approvals

The audience was left clearly confused awaiting action by the Pahrump Regional Planning Commission Wednesday on several items but the RPC was informed by Deputy District Attorney Tim Sutton they all had to be continued because of a requirement not enforced before, requiring conceptual site plans for projects not in compliance with county code.

Gaming Control Board OKs casino takeover

LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Gaming Control Board Wednesday approved a non-restricted gaming license for Herbst Pahrump Acquisitions LLC for the Mountain View Casino and Tim Herbst as manager.

Matson confirms firing attempt with online comments

Nye County Assessor Shirley Matson wouldn’t comment for a newspaper article earlier this week on her attempts to fire her property appraiser and opponent in the Nov. 4 general election, Sheree Stringer, but she spilled the beans in posting online comments on the story on the Pahrump Valley Times’ website.

Judge accepts Marshall plea deal

As expected, a visiting senior judge Thursday dismissed a misdemeanor charge of injury to property against Rick Marshall, a candidate for Nye County sheriff.

A Nye County School District principal who was led out of her school in tears and in handcuffs in November 2010 is suing the detective who arrested her.

Volleyball Sierra Vista downs Trojans at home, 3-1

The Lady Trojans had their home opener against the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions, which was their first league game. The match went four games with the Trojans losing 3-1.

RPC delays approving new town trailhead plan

Pahrump Town Manager Susan Holecheck said Wednesday there was some urgency in getting Pahrump Regional Planning Commission approval for a conditional use permit for a different trailhead site as an access to the long-awaited Last Chance Range Park.
