Two arrested after Amargosa search uncovers drugs, guns

AMARGOSA — Two men were arrested last week after sheriff’s deputies allegedly found methamphetamine, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia on a property on West Amargosa Farm Road.

Jesus Zamora, 44, and Ricky Eugene Hampton, 55, were arrested Aug. 6 on multiple drug-related charges after Nye County Sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant on a property located at 1735 W. Amargosa Farm Road.

According to a declaration of arrest in the case, a narcotics detective and other NCSO personnel went to the address after they received information that Zamora was allegedly selling methamphetamine with Hampton acting as an armed bodyguard for his business.

When police arrived with a search warrant for the property, they found two trailers on the lot.

Hampton and a female were discovered inside the master bedroom of one of the trailers and Zamora was found inside the other.

As officers searched the room Hampton and the female were occupying, they allegedly found a bindle of meth, two glass pipes, a hypodermic needle and a glass with the bottom covered in cotton and methamphetamine residue.

The female told police she had just injected Hampton with the illicit substance in the back of his leg just prior to their arrival. She also reportedly told officers Hampton earlier that evening had been armed with a small .22 caliber rifle that he borrowed from Zamora and that he owns another .22 caliber rifle as well.

A search of the second trailer where Zamora was located allegedly turned up a digital scale, a glass meth pipe, packaging baggies, several firearms, including a .22 caliber rifle, and a bullet-proof vest.

Narcotics detectives also reported finding a pharmaceutical pill identification book along with a large quantity of unlabeled pills, many of which are classified as dangerous drugs. Police also allegedly discovered pills identified as Temazapam and Oxycodone among them.

According to an arrest report, both Hampton and Zamora appeared to be exhibiting signs of meth use when police arrived at the address.

Police were additionally informed that Zamora had just been re-supplied with meth the day before officers arrived to search the property. The individual police received the information from said what was left of that meth was in the possession of a woman who was allegedly making deliveries on behalf of Zamora.

Narcotics detectives also learned that recently Zamora had allegedly sold a large quantity of meth to two individuals who came down to purchase it from Beatty.

A search of Hampton’s home on Atomic Road additionally turned up another .22 caliber firearm, which Hampton, a convicted felon, allegedly admitted to bringing into his home.

Both Zamora and Hampton were subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Nye County Detention Center.

Zamora was booked into custody on charges of possession of a controlled substance, oxycodone, possession of a controlled substance, Temazapam, and maintaining a residence for the purpose of narcotics.

Hampton was booked on charges of unlawful use of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine and convicted felon not to possess a firearm. He was additionally charged with being a habitual criminal after his arrest report noted Hampton has had multiple felony convictions for burglary and theft-related offenses as well as drug and dangerous weapon-related offenses in the past.

Both men remained in custody in Beatty as of Tuesday morning. Hampton’s bail is set at $25,000 and Zamora’s was set at $15,000.
