Woman charged with attempted murder

A 54-year-old Pahrump woman was arrested March 18 on several charges, including two counts of attempted murder after firing a gun at an occupied vehicle.

Robin Young was arrested by Nye County Sheriff’s Office after testing positive for gunshot residue following an altercation at a residence on West Simkins Road.

According to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Young pointed a gun and fired at a truck occupied by two people who had come to visit the owner of the property.

The bullet struck the front passenger quarter panel inches away from one of the occupants.

No one was hurt by the shot. Responding to a call about shots fired, the police arrived to find the bullet hole and took Young into custody upon completing their investigation.

According to the report, the two people were visiting the property to discuss fixing the roof with the homeowner before Young emerged from a trailer on the property cursing at the visitors.

Young and one of the victims “have had negative encounters in the past and are not on good terms,” according to the police report.

The relationship between Young and the two visitors was not disclosed in the report.

The two visitors exited the driveway, got back in the truck as Young allegedly shouted “I’m going to shoot you guys.” As the driver was backing up, both reported hearing a loud bang, and the pair observed Young pointing a gun in their direction from Young’s front porch.

According to the report, Young went back into the trailer with the firearm, came back out and walked over to the main residence of the property.

After police arrived, an officer attempted to make contact with Young over a public address system, but Young was not responsive.

Several minutes later, she emerged from the main residence and was detained. The police reported smelling “an odor of unknown alcoholic beverage” while she was interviewed.

She tested a presumptive positive for gunshot residue. Police also recovered the bullet that was allegedly shot into the truck, which appeared to be a .357 or .38 caliber bullet. In a search of the residence, police recovered multiple rifles and shotguns, including a .357 caliber short lever action rifle, along with multiple rounds of ammunition.

Young was booked into the Nye County Detention Center and booked on attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, discharge a gun into an occupied vehicle, discharging a gun where a person might be in danger, and injury to a vehicle.

Young, who is being held on $120,000 bail, is scheduled to appear in Pahrump Justice Court on Thursday at 8 a.m.
