Woman charged with attempted murder appears in court

The local woman charged with attempted murder made her initial court appearance Thursday for the felony charges stemming from her allegedly firing a gun at an occupied vehicle.

Robin Young, 54, will next appear in Pahrump Justice Court on April 13 at 1:30 p.m. on various charges including two counts of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a gun into an occupied vehicle, discharging a gun where a person might be in danger and injury to a vehicle.

Young, who is being held on $120,000 bail, was denied a request to be released on her own recognizance by Judge Kent Jasperson.

Attorney Harry Gensler said Young has been employed at a local tavern for three years and lived in Pahrump for 22 years.

“Also here is her daughters, son-in-law and three grandchildren,” Gensler said. “She also indicated that she has zero prior record and has never been in trouble before.”

Nye County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Young on March 18 after she allegedly fired the gun at a truck occupied by a man and a woman who had come to visit the owner of a property at 1850 W. Simkins Road, where Young occupies a trailer. The bullet struck the front passenger quarter panel inches away from one of the occupants, according to the arrest report by Nye County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the report, Young and one of the occupants of the truck have had negative encounters in the past and were not on good terms. Gensler said the court is only hearing one side of the story.

Local resident John Bushko, who has known Young for roughly five years, said after the hearing he didn’t think it was Young’s intention to murder anyone.

“She’s a private person about her personal matters,” he said. “We’re just on a casual, friendly basis. She wasn’t looking to kill this person. Like her attorney said, we’re only hearing one side of the story. I’m very concerned. It’s heartbreaking.”

Sheriff’s deputies said the individuals arrived on the property to speak to the owner about repairing a roof when Young exited her trailer and began cursing the individuals. The report went on to say as the individuals attempted to leave the property, they heard a loud bang, where both observed Young pointing a gun from her porch.

The bullet struck the front passenger quarter panel of the vehicle just missing one the occupants. The report further states deputies who made contact with Young could detect the odor of alcohol on her breath.

A gunshot residue test was also performed on Young, which revealed gunpowder residue on the suspect’s hand.
