Some Nye residents set to get new addresses
Some Nye County residents are set to get new addresses by the end of this year, pending completion and approval of a plan currently underway.
County employees Ken Plewe and Debbie Orrick explained the plan to the Beatty Town Advisory board and residents at the board’s March 23 meeting.
The addresses will be based on state Department of Transportation mile markers and the distance from the highway where the mile marker is located.
“It’s for EMS purposes, 911, more than anything,” said Plewe, and Orrick also explained that the Postal Service is trying to eliminate HCR addresses by the end of the year.
The plan will not affect addresses in rural areas, which will be assigned and designated as they have been in the past.
Ted Buchanan, a representative of Barrick Gold, voiced his company’s support of the Trails OV project, and David Spicer said that seven miles of mountain bike trails are now completed on his ranch property. He said that further trails will be developed in a phased process and that the project has been garnering good publicity in the mountain biking community.
Buchanan also said that Barrick has been approached by a company interested in installing solar panels on top of the Barrick Bullfrog tailings area. This is only in the discussion phase, but he said it could be of economic benefit to the community if it comes to fruition, and it could fit in with the company’s reclamation responsibilities. He said that the panels would rest on their own concrete bases rather than anything sunk into the tailings.
The board had little business to take care of at the meeting. They voted to approve paying half of the $11,000 cost of this year’s Fourth of July fireworks, with the money coming from the room tax tourism fund. They also agreed to spend up to $300 each for materials for floats in the Fourth of July and Beatty Days parades.
Boy Scout Liam Mossey used public comment time to tell the board about discount cards being sold by the scouts to raise money to go to camp. He also announced that the scouts will be holding their pinewood derby in the community center April 15 at 6 pm.
