Movies in the Park returns to Ian Deutch
A summertime favorite is returning to the community.
The Town of Pahrump’s Movies in the Park kicks off tomorrow at Ian Deutch Memorial Park’s field three at dusk.
Tomorrow’s feature film is Disney’s “Big Hero 6.”
Town Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Matt Luis said the movie series will start a few weeks earlier this year.
“In previous years we have held this at Petrack Park for the Fourth of July to coincide with the Liberty Festival,” he said. “We will have movies every Saturday and they will all be at the Ian Deutch Memorial Park. It’s a great time for families to get out and watch a few movies.”
The movies are selected primarily by the Parks and Recreation Department and are also determined by which movie rights the town has access to.
Luis said the venue serves as a great location for local families to get out of the house and spend time at the park, while enjoying a feature-length film on an oversized portable movie screen.
“This is around our sixth year I believe, for having Movies in the Park and the people love it,” he said. “It’s the only thing that we really put out there that covers all ages so it’s not just for any one particular type of group because this is truly a family event.”
There are a few rules to follow while at the park Luis noted.
He said barbecues and open fires are not permitted, nor are ice chests, as there will be a concession stand open for refreshments.
Families are encouraged to bring a blanket and or lawn chair to the park for their own comfort.
The schedule for other movies are “McFarland USA” on June 13, “Paddington” on June 20, “Dolphin Tale 2” on June 27. The event takes a break on the Fourth of July, then returns with “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” on July 11. On July 18 is “Goonies” and July 25 is the 2014 edition of “Annie.”
