Woman jailed for child, elder abuse

Kelly Lynn Oliver was arrested on Aug. 31 after a local school vice principal called authorities in regards to visible scratches on a child's neck.

According to the arrest report, the student told police that a woman, later identified as Oliver, scratched her neck and punched her in the face on the morning of Aug. 30.

The student also stated Oliver, who was intoxicated, struck a woman identified as the student's relative during an argument.

The student also told police that an elder sibling stepped in between the parties to stop the brawl and was subsequently struck by Oliver.

The student said she then tried to stop the fight between Oliver and the sibling when she was struck by Oliver on the left cheek with a closed fist.

The report went on to say the grandmother instructed the alleged victims to leave the residence.

While speaking to the elder sibling, the officer noted an abrasion over the left eye of the second alleged victim, while stating Oliver caused the mark.

The story was also corroborated by the relative, who told officers Oliver was intoxicated and began arguing and allegedly struck her on the arm and proceeded to fight the two alleged victims.

When officers made contact with Oliver, who was inside a trailer at the rear of the property, Oliver stated both the three witnesses and the victims were "ganging up on her and beating her up."

When pressed for specifics, Oliver said she did not remember, the report stated.

Additionally, Oliver told officers she had two vodka and 7 UP's.

Officers determined there was sufficient evidence to make an arrest and transported Oliver to the Nye County Detention Center.

Her preliminary charges include felony domestic battery, two counts of child abuse and abuse of an elderly or vulnerable person.

Bail was set at $10,500.

Man facing burglary, grand larceny charges

Kevin Gryniewicki was arrested Aug. 31 on preliminary charges of burglary, possession of stolen property, grand larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia after police said he stole a 50'' television set, a laptop computer, a hand-held Nintendo DS gaming system and cash from a woman's home.

The total value of the property is approximately $1,380.

Police were executing a search warrant on two homes when they spotted Gryniewicki in the desert near the residence they were en route to.

Police said the suspect was a person of interest in the burglary and was known to reside at a residence along W. Flamingo Road.

When police made contact with Gryniewicki they allegedly found drug paraphernalia on his person.

After speaking with the suspect, police said Gryniewicki admitted to a heroin addiction as well the burglary.

Police said the man admitted to entering the home, taking the items and more than $40 in cash from the victim's purse.

Police placed Gryniewicki under arrest and he was transported to the Nye County Detention Center.

The suspect also told police he traded the stolen items for heroin, while another man identified as Kenneth Frizzell helped him take the television and laptop to a residence occupied by a man identified as Thomas Blair.

Police also said Frizzell was in possession of a flashlight, screwdriver and a carpenter's knife, at which point police asked the man if he planned on burglarizing another home and whether the tools he had were used to commit the burglary.

Frizzell reportedly told police, he was not and did not, but admitted to taking the flashlight from another residence along W. Emma.

Frizzell was placed under arrest and transported to the Nye County Detention Center.

Bail was set at $15,640.

Traffic stop yields marijuana, felony gun possession charge

Jordan Lee Tapp was arrested Aug. 24 on preliminary felony drug and firearms charges after police pulled he and another man over for a traffic violation.

Tapp was a passenger in the vehicle.

According to the arrest report, as police approached the man's car, they could smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The driver stated there was marijuana in a lunch box inside the car but it belonged to Tapp.

Upon receiving consent to search the car and retrieve the marijuana, police discovered a .45 caliber handgun in plain view, which was promptly secured by officers.

Upon opening the lunch box, officers said they found marijuana in a glass jar along with four Ziploc baggies containing additional marijuana, totaling more than three ounces, along with a digital scale.

When questioned by police, Tapp admitted the marijuana was his and he paid $600 for it.

Tapp also admitted to owning the gun, which he claimed was given to him.

Tapp was arrested for possession of marijuana with the intent to sell and felony possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

All of the items were processed and booked into evidence for safekeeping.

The marijuana was sent to Las Vegas for further testing.

Tapp's bail was set at $15,000.
