Revisiting the dissolution of the town board

I read with interest former town board member Dr. Waters' article about disbanding of the town board and the problems it has created for the county commissioners.

As one who voted for the dissolution of the board, I believe that Dr. Waters did not understand why the people voted the way they did. After having attended several board meetings where the wishes and concerns of the people were totally disregarded by the board, it became apparent that some on the board had their own agenda and the public be damned.

With budget problems one wonders why loads of money was wasted on a consulting firm with a questionable record to study for an amusement park that few people I talked with thought was a good idea. There was also the talk by some board members of incorporation, an issue that had been voted down several times by the people in the past by substantial margins, again not listening to the people of Pahrump.

There may come a time in the future where the people of Pahrump want a town board again and if they vote for one I can only hope that the members of the board are ones that will be more receptive to the wants and wishes of the people and in the best interests of the town.

As for the incorporation that Dr. Waters mentioned, I hope people will check out what NRS 266 has to say about that. NRS 266.017 covers the area to be included, which is the entire valley, not just a small piece and NRS 266.0263 talks about the new taxes that will need to be levied on property to pay for it.

What the people of Pahrump need is real representation.

Rush Limbaugh understood Pahrump's name

I am a Pahrump resident six years. If I had a buck for every time the name of our town was made fun of .... (you know the rest.)

I heard the Rush show - he did have it checked - that it came from "pahrumpi" meaning plenty water- then he said he did understand why the name.
