Pahrump man arrested after firing shots in front of his home
A Pahrump man was arrested Thursday afternoon after allegedly firing gunshots in front of his home.
James Rourke, 69, was taken into custody by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office and charged with preliminary counts of discharging a firearm where person endangered and intoxicated person in possession of a firearm.
Police were called out to a residence in the 5000 block of Turner Boulevard in reference to a suicidal man. Upon arriving to the scene NCSO deputies encountered Rourke who was in possession of a handgun.
Deputies began talking with Rourke in person as well as via phone and during this process he allowed his wife to vacate the residence.
As deputies continued the negotiation efforts with Rourke, the suspect fired several rounds at the ground in front of his garage, according to police. No other rounds were fired thereafter.
A short time later a trained negotiator arrived at the scene and began negotiating with Rourke and he started to calm down, police said.
Rourke eventually put down his firearm and surrendered peacefully to deputies. He was arrested and transported to the Nye County Detention Center where he was booked on the pair of charges.
