Congressman Cresent Hardy makes stop in Pahrump today

U.S. Rep. Cresent Hardy will spend several hours today in the Pahrump community visiting with constituents throughout the day.

The Republican Hardy will make a stop at the VFW Post at 4651 Homestead Road, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday discussing issues concerning Nevada’s veteran population.

Charles Navarro, Hardy’s Deputy District Director, said the visit is a follow-up to a previous veteran’s town hall event.

“During this time, there will be casual conversation about the issues facing our veterans and a chance for the congressman to have a discussion in an intimate setting where a productive dialogue can happen,” he said. “Coffee will also be provided for those in attendance.”

The congressman has also scheduled a stop at the Pahrump Senior Center at 5:30 p.m. for a meet and greet with area seniors.

Campaign manager Ross Hemminger said everyone in the community is urged to come out and meet with the congressman.

“We will have some light refreshments and the congressman will be able to talk to people about their respective concerns,” he said. “He really loves the Pahrump community and takes every opportunity he has to come back to see old friends and make new friends.”

Hemminger also noted Hardy’s campaign for a second term in Nevada’s 4th Congressional District is going quite well as he travels throughout the Silver State leading up to November’s general election. He has two challengers in the June primary, but is expected to face the stiffer contest in November in a district that has only 103,000 Republicans registered voters compared to 131,000 Democrats.

“The polls continue to show us leading and I think the congressman has done an effective job representing people all across the district,” he said. “It is a large and very diverse district and people like the job that he’s doing and like his honesty. They also know where he stands on the issues and they know that they can contact him or contact his office.”

Last May, Hardy and staff prepared a barbecue lunch at the Pahrump Senior Center for those in attendance.

Hardy spent the morning overseeing his Dutch oven duties while a few of his staff were preparing grilled chicken.

Hemminger said Hardy wants to do another barbecue lunch at the senior center again, sometime this year.

“The congressman’s famous BBQ actually predates me but I asked him about it and he said he wants to do another one this year,” he said. “He told me that he had so much fun at the first one that he wants to do it again. We haven’t scheduled the date on that just yet. We hope to have more details in the not-too-distant future to let the community know.”

Hemminger also noted though Hardy is following the presidential campaign, the congressman’s attention remains on his current duties.

“As far as the presidential election and the candidates running, we still have a long way to go until we have a nominee and at this point, he is focused on the fourth district. We hope that everyone can come by and talk to the congressman at the Pahrump Senior Center today.”
