People’s voices not heard

in water meeting article

The article in the July 13 issue of the PVT titled “State Lawmakers Receive Local Input On Water Issues” did not include any statements or comments provided by the people during the public comment at the beginning and end of the meeting which consisted of about 35 residents.

This shows us that we are losing our Republican form of representative, accountable government to nonelected, appointed officials and bureaucrats in departments and agencies. They have created rules, regulations and codes.

The article noted the suggestions from Rick Felling, deputy administrator of the Nevada Division of Water Resources, Jason King, Nevada State engineer, Wendy Barnett, president of Utilities, Inc., and Gregory Hafen, general manager of Pahrump Utility Co., Inc.

One paragraph in the article said “Officials said stakeholders need to act now and be an integral part of the solution and not wait for state engineer’s office to take action.” Who are the stakeholders? Are we the people the stakeholders? Are our voices being heard? Do they count? What did we say? There was nearly two hours of public comment, none of which was mentioned in the article.

We the people need to demand that our representatives listen to the people for their consent for our governing.
