Relay for Life team wraps Christmas gifts for donations
A Pahrump Relay for Life team member wants to take the edge off of the sometimes vexing activity of wrapping Christmas presents.
Isabella Sehnert’s team, Boogies, Shakers, Crunch, Strides will have a post up at Walmart on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., wrapping gifts for shoppers.
The 14-year-old’s grandmother, Linda Wright, said the team will wrap any gift for a mere donation.
“She also did it last year on the Saturday before Christmas and on Christmas Eve,” Wright said. “It was for donations and she did such a good job, the customers were really appreciative, as well as the checkers at Walmart, who really appreciated it. Store manager Allen Rogers invited her to come back this year. She has booked it for the three Saturdays before Christmas.”
Wright noted that customers need not bring their own wrapping paper unless they want their gifts wrapped in a certain kind of wrapping paper.
No gift is too big or too small to wrap, Wright said.
“We furnish everything, and my granddaughter is a very accomplished gift wrapper,” Wright said. “I would say they wrapped over 100 packages throughout the course of the day last Saturday. She can do all kinds of different shapes and sizes from small items to big packages. She also has other team members who assist.”
Wright also said the team last week was forced to extend the hours of the wrapping session due to the high demand of customers as the event drew to a close.
“Last week we did it from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., but we found out that going until 5 o’clock is a much better time because we got swamped at 3 o’clock last Saturday,” she said. “The customers were very appreciative and we even had several customers return from last year.”
For those who can’t make Saturday’s event, Wright said the team has scheduled another gift wrapping session tonight at a south end venue.
“We will also be at the VFW Post 10054 on Homestead Road Friday night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. wrapping Christmas presents for donations,” she said. “The VFW wanted her to come over too because she did such a good job at Walmart last Saturday.”
The VFW Post is located at 4651 Homestead Road.
