Weather: Rain chances present to start weekend

The weekend will start off on a soggy note, as rain chances will be present today into Saturday.

The National Weather Service said that there will be a 50 percent chance of rain today and tonight.

“There is a system that pretty much drops in west of us and kind of travels down the length of California, so we’ll get a pretty good chance of precipitation,” said John Salmen, weather service meteorologist. “Anywhere between a tenth and two-tenths of rain is possible.”

For Saturday, there is a 30 percent chance of rain, with thunderstorms possible after 10 a.m.

As the system pushes out of the area, winds will pick up around the Pahrump Valley starting on Friday night with winds up to 20 mph possible, but the strongest gusts will come Saturday.

“Significant wind will be coming in behind the front,” Salmen said. “We’re looking at 20 to 30 mph winds, with gusts up to 40 mph or so, out of the north.”

Sunday will see calmer conditions with sun and a high around 63 degrees expected.

The work week will see sunny conditions throughout with highs ranging between 66 degrees and 68 degrees, with lows dipping between 41 degrees and 47 degrees.
