Airplane flips as it lands during landing at Death Valley

No one was injured when an airplane ran off the end of the runway and flipped over during landing at Furnace Creek Airport in Death Valley.

The pilot was uninjured March 24 but was freed from the airplane by the National Park Service, according to the Death Valley National Park news release.

The Cessna airplane was attempting to land at 9:20 a.m. The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration were investigating to determine the cause of the accident.

Runway 15 at Furnace Creek Airport was temporarily closed due to the proximity of the wrecked plane to the runway.

Officials said as of Tuesday the wreckage was cleared from the runway, and the runway is open.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the crash.

No other details about the crash were available, including the pilot’s name or information on the plane’s route.
