New easement fee approved for GridLiance
GridLiance will pay a $19,085 fee per year for a right-of-way easement on the Nye County training facility after Nye County commissioners approved the new rate.
The company requested a reconsideration of the annual fee on its Nye County training facility for the easement that was granted to GridLiance by Nye County commissioners at the Aug. 22 meeting.
Justin Campbell, a representative of GridLiance, said the easement was granted in August for certain transmission facilities and asked Nye County officials to reconsider the annual fee and the escalation factor that was included in that grant.
“We are acquiring high-voltage assets from Valley Electric and setting up a long-term partnership, where we will develop more transmission facilities,” Campbell said.
The easement overlays an existing VEA easement for electric facilities and covers the same infrastructure as the VEA easement with no new lines and poles planned for construction.
The power line that crosses the property serves Nye County residents, including a Nye County training facility on the parcel.
The cost of the easement is a pass-through cost, which means the easement fee will be paid by Nye County residents in VEA’s service area through their electric rates.
The reconsideration of a fee is a “matter of people paying electric bills, getting fair price for this easement,” Campbell said.
Campbell said as part of the transaction with Valley Electric, they put a freeze on the rates until 2024.
