The Nye County Assessor’s office has changed its hours in Pahrump and Tonopah to 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, effective immediately. The change comes as new Assessor Sheree Stringer took over the office Monday from Shirley Matson, who Stringer defeated in November’s election.
The assessor’s office in Pahrump is at 160 Floyd St., and in Tonopah at 101 Radar Road.
The proposal to abolish this elected office and make the position county-appointed prompted pushback.
Authorities said jail and bank phone call scams have been reported recently by the community.
New applications for these commercial facilities will not be accepted while the county drafts regulations.
The seats up for election are Area I, V and VII, with each area’s candidate running unopposed.
