ATV rider flown to UMC Trauma following Pahrump crash
One person was transported to a Las Vegas hospital following an ATV crash in the desert just south of Buckboard Street on Saturday.
Fire Chief Scott Lewis said crews responded to the scene just after 2:30 p.m.
“Upon arrival, we found an all-terrain vehicle accident that occurred in the open desert area,” Lewis said. “One patient was flown from the scene by Mercy Air to UMC Trauma in Las Vegas. There was also one patient who refused transport.”
The cause of that crash is now under investigation by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office.
An apparent case of arson prompted the response of fire crews on the 3700 block of Jarvis Street.
“At approximately 9:21 p.m., we were dispatched for a report of an intentional act of an individual setting fires in the desert area near Jarvis Street,” he said. “Upon arrival, we found that in fact, there was an individual who was lighting materials on the desert floor. This individual is known to the fire department for doing similar things over the last several years and has become a law enforcement issue.”
Despite increased traffic along highways 160 and 372 for the annual Baker to Vegas run, this past weekend, Lewis said the call volume for Pahrump’s first responders was relatively light, aside from numerous medical transports and related calls for service. Those included calls on unauthorized vegetation burns in the community.
“Regarding the Baker to Vegas run, it was very busy from an EMS standpoint,” Lewis said. “Crews moved through established staging areas and they did treat and transport some patients for various medical issues, including dehydration.”
