Desert View Hospital welcomes new general surgeon

Desert View Hospital has welcomed a new general surgeon to its medical staff.

Dr. Laurel J. Blair, a general surgeon with Las Vegas Surgical Associates, recently joined the medical staff at Desert View Hospital.

Herniorrhaphy refers to a surgical operation for the correction of a hernia, while laparoscopy is a technique used to find problems such as cysts, adhesions, fibroids and infections.

Tissue samples can be taken for biopsy through the tube laparoscope.

As stated in the hospital’s news release, Blair earned her medical degree from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where she completed her general surgery residency at Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania.

Following her residency, Dr. Blair furthered her education by pursuing a competitive minimally invasive surgery fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she furthered her skills in abdominal wall reconstruction and advanced laparoscopy, with a research emphasis on patient satisfaction and quality of life, following surgery.

Dr. Blair, a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Hernia Society has since presented her research both nationally and internationally.
