IN PROFILE: Jennifer Fox

BUSINESS: Manager of Fitness for $10

AGE: 46

BACKGROUND: “I’m a certified personal trainer and a certified group fitness instructor. I’ve owned my own gym and been the athletic director for Mountainside Fitness in Colorado. I’ve also been a corporate wellness director for another company in Lakewood, Colo.”

FIRST JOB: “I worked as a hostess in a Mexican restaurant.”

YEARS IN BUSINESS: “I live in Las Vegas and moved there six months ago and make the commute to Pahrump. The gym is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and I attend the luncheons.

We’re trying to reach out to the community, I’m giving a presentation to the local chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly next week and we support the local charities with gift certificates they can use in their raffles and silent auctions.”

PERSONAL: “I made Muscle and Fitness Magazine in 1993. I like anything physical. A walk to me is about 10 miles and I’m an avid hiker. Ironically, I’m also an avid baker and an excellent cook.

BUSINESS CLIMATE:

“I like Pahrump’s small town feel. I’m just getting familiar with the community and the services offered here, and doing my part to support the local businesses. I’m taking my car to a local body shop here instead of going down the street from my house in Las Vegas. I think everyone should support local businesses and good service is key to return customers. Word-of-mouth referrals are the best advertising. It’s how I found the body shop.

Replace the Calvada fountain? Why the water board thinks we should

Nye County District Attorney Brian Kunzi recently made a suggestion that caught the attention of the Nye County Water District Governing Board. He proposed the county consider replacing one of the most notable landmarks in the Pahrump Valley: the fountain at Calvada Boulevard and Highway 160.
