Man arrested on child abuse, strangulation charges
Derek Bayer was arrested Monday on a preliminary charge of child abuse when police were called after a student came to school with "severe bruising."
According to the Nye County Sheriff's Office, deputies and detectives conducted an investigation that identified Bayer as individual who caused the injuries while disciplining the 12-year-old child several days earlier.
Bayer, 41, was interviewed and then taken into custody due to the extent of the injuries. He was booked at the Nye County Detention Center on the preliminary charges of child abuse and domestic battery with strangulation, and held on $10,000 bail.
