Pahrump temperatures to hit 100 degrees by Sunday

School is out and the town pool is open just in time for temperatures to begin their climb to triple digits.

Sunday is projected to be the lucky day when temperatures in Pahrump hit 100 degrees, according to a forecast by the National Weather Service. That would be 15 degrees higher than the top temperature recorded Sunday, May 24.

The increase is a sharp increase in what has been a historically mild April and May in the Pahrump area. The average temperature for April was 61 degrees, and early May was 70 degrees. Tuesday’s high of 93 broke a streak of 25 consecutive days under 90 degrees.

Pahrump recorded its first 100 degree days last year around the same time, May 27-28. June 2014 saw 11 days with temperatures in the 100 degrees or higher, July had 24, August had nine, and September had six. The hottest day of the year was July 14 when temperatures hit 109.9 degrees in Pahrump.

Hitting 100 degrees in late May is a relatively new trend. The average historical temperature for Pahrump in late May has hovered around 89 degrees, according to U.S. Climate Data.

Temperatures will also creep higher in Beatty, projected to hit 95 degrees on Sunday, up from a high of 82 on Tuesday. Cool temperatures prevail in the higher regions of Nye, with the high temperature for Tonopah projected to be 84 on Sunday.
