Sheriff’s office investigating shooting of a dog tied to a pole

The Nye County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help while investigating an incident where a dog was tied to a pole and shot several times last month.

On Oct. 29 at the Bell Vista Shooting Range, deputies were alerted to the incident after receiving several reports about the shot dog.

Sheriff’s deputies and Nye County Animal Control officers responded to the area and discovered a black and white Terrier mix that was shot multiple times. Deputies noted that it appeared that the dog recently gave birth to a litter of puppies.

Sheriff’s officials said that a .45-caliber handgun was likely the weapon used to shoot the dog, as there were six .45-caliber casings recovered from the crime scene.

The Nye County Sheriff’s Office is out of leads and is asking anyone to come forward if they have any information which can assist the sheriff’s office in solving this crime.

Those who want to relay tips can do so by calling 775-751-7000 or via email confidentially at sheriff@co.nye.nv.us.
