Vegas performing troupe to stage fundraising show

Tickets are now on sale for a special fundraiser benefiting Pahrump’s Nathan Adelson Hospice.

The Ovation Dancers from Las Vegas will perform a show entitled “Come Fly with Us” at the showroom inside the Saddle West Hotel Casino on Sunday, July 24 at 6 p.m.

Two members of the performing troupe are Pahrump residents.

Sharon Cahlan said she and fellow performer Sandy Stell have put in much time and effort for the show.

“We are going to perform a production number called ‘Come Fly with Us,’” she said. “We are called the Ovation Dancers and my teacher choreographed and put all of the lines together. It’s also called ‘Around the World in 80 Minutes,’ which is a fundraiser for Nathan Adelson Hospice.”

Cahlan said the show will open with the dancers creating a formation designed to appear like a passenger plane, complete with a pilot, co-pilot and stewardesses.

“We land at LAX and we get off the plane,” she said. “Sandy and I are the only two local ones out of the 12 Las Vegas performers in the troupe. We travel to various cities around the world.”

One city the dancers will visit on their imaginary excursion is Las Vegas.

Greeting the ladies at the airport will be a gentleman named Elvis Presley, convincingly impersonated by Pahrump’s best known Elvis impersonator, Johnny V.

“I’m not playing a real big role in this production, but I will be singing a couple of songs when they land in Vegas,” he said. “I will serenade them with, of course Viva Las Vegas and Teddy Bear. I will even toss some teddy bears out to the women in the audience.”

Sandy Stell meanwhile, said those who purchase advance tickets will save a few dollars on the fundraising show.

“The tickets are $12 if you buy them before July 24, which is the evening of the performance,” she said. “At the door, they will be $15. People can purchase tickets from us or they can go to the Nathan Adelson Hospice office in Pahrump, located at 2270 Commercial Drive.”

Both Stell and Cahlan said they recently danced in a Senior Idol show in Las Vegas.

“We both love it,” Cahlan said. “Performing with the other girls has been a lot of fun. I wanted to try something new and this has been great. We participated in the Senior Idol show in Las Vegas. This stage was fabulous and we had to try out for it. There were 60 tryouts, but only 25 made it.”

The Ovation Dancers range in age from 65 to 96 years young.

Cahlan said the 96-year-old was forced to withdraw from the upcoming performance for good reason.

“Our 96-year-old can’t be in this one because her sister is having her 100th birthday celebration and she just could not miss that,” she said. “We certainly do understand. We are really excited about the show later this month.

Producing the Ovation Dancers’ show is Liz Lieberman from LieberEnt Inc., out of Las Vegas.
