Coyote population out of control

I believe the wild coyote population is getting way out of control. No one spays or neuters these animals and they are very fertile.

This year the following have occurred:

Roxanne Dann’s (my neighbor) dog was eaten by coyotes;

Elora Mills’ dog was eaten (also my neighbor);

Phyllis Owens’ (my pastor’s wife) neighbor called and told her that a coyote was sitting on her front porch (probably waiting for breakfast, her cat, to come out;

Bill Howard (hairdresser at Shear Talent) had chickens slaughtered in the middle of the day.

I am currently dog sitting a teacup poodle and took her for a walk. I was near Woodchips on Basin when she started shaking. I picked it up and as I did, a coyote ran past on the right then got a few feet in front of me and crossed the street. When it got to the other side it froze and just stared at me and the dog. I started yelling at it to “go and do no harm.” Thankfully this tactic worked.

The coyotes seem to be getting bolder and much more confident in their abilities. I have also heard that they have started running two or three together.

Well let’s see, rabbits, dogs, cats, chickens – what do you think will be next? If you agree, talk to with your county commissioner. Thanks.
