Tonopah mother plans to honor teen daughter killed in Beatty crash 2 years ago
A Tonopah mother whose teenage daughter died in fatal car crash almost two years ago is asking the public for help in remembering the child.
Jordahnah Toviah Grover of Tonopah is looking to the public to send postcards for her daughter, Tyra Welch Grover, who died in a crash in Beatty two years ago. She was 14 years old.
Grover said her daughter never got to see the world.
Grover is planning to collect as many postcards as possible, for as long as possible, to put a scrapbook together.
People have already sent postcards from South Korea, Singapore, Australia and from all over the U.S.
“They make me cry every time I get them,” Grover said. “It’s a happy cry.”
She is also inviting anyone that wants to attend a rededication of her daughter’s memorial at the crash site in Beatty next week.
Tyra was killed in a rollover crash along Indian Springs Road—a gravel road just off of North Avenue. She wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time.
Two other minor passengers in the car survived the crash. Both were wearing their seatbelts.
“That’s the biggest message out of all of this,” Jordahnah said. “She would’ve been OK.”
The memorial event is set to start between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Oct. 24, 2017. She is doing a rededication because someone destroyed the accident site.
In 2016, Grover released several helium-filled balloons in Tonopah and Beatty in remembrance of her daughter.
