First ever “Touch-a-Truck” arrives at local VFW on Saturday

Officials for Pahrump’s Relay For Life are holding a first of its kind event tomorrow.

A team dubbed the “Boogies, Shakers Crunch Strides” representing VFW Post 10054 in the relay, is inviting the community to participate in what’s called “Touch-a-Truck” where kids get the opportunity to see, climb and explore an assortment of construction trucks, first responders and service vehicles.

Demonstrations are also scheduled throughout the morning from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event serves as a fundraiser for the team. Organizer Linda Wright said food, crafts and other activities are also scheduled.

“Kids, parents and the community can come out and see these vehicles up close,” she said. “We’ll also have some brand new vehicles on display from the car dealerships. It will be a fun way to spend Saturday out with the family.”

Wright said it was her 12-year-old granddaughter, Isabelle Sehnert who came up with the idea.

“She’s the team captain for the Boogies, Shakers Crunch Strides Relay For Life team,” Wright said.

Members of the Nye County Sheriff’s Office and crews from the county’s emergency services will take part in the event.

“We are hoping to have Valley Electric Association to come out and join us,” she said. “The kids can actually get inside the trucks and learn about how the equipment works. They won’t be able to drive the trucks obviously. With the cars from the dealerships, the parent may take a test drive though.”

The four-hour Touch-a-Truck event will be held at the VFW Post parking lot at 4651 Homestead Road.

Cost for the fundraiser is $5 per ticket or $20 for the family.

Relay For Life of Pahrump is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, at Petrack Park.
