Pahrump Senior Center

The menu (subject to change) and activities for the week of July 31-Aug. 4. Two percent milk and juice available daily:

Monday – Swiss steak, baked potato with cheese/sour cream/chives, veggie medley, whole wheat bread, applesauce, soup;

Tuesday — Herb-baked chicken, baked potato, medley blend vegetables, whole wheat bread, apple, soup;

Wednesday – Ham and swiss sandwich, macaroni salad, celery/carrot sticks, baked beans, fruit, soup;

Thursday — Pork roast, mashed potatoes, cauliflower, yogurt with fruit, soup;

Friday – Lemon baked fish, brown rice, squash, three-bean salad, whole wheat roll, oranges, soup.

ACTIVITIES

Monday — Exercise class, 9:30 a.m.; poker, 12:30 p.m.; beading class, 12:30 p.m.;

Tuesday — Exercise class, 9:30 a.m.; bridge, 12:30 p.m.; haircuts, 1 p.m.-3 p.m.;

Wednesday —Crafty Ladies, 12:30 p.m.;

Thursday — Men’s breakfast, 8 a.m.; exercise class, 9:30 a.m.; Rippits (crocheting/knitting) 10 a.m.; War Patriots Quilt Display, 10 a.m. to noon; haircuts, 1 p.m. -3 p.m.;

Friday — T.O.P.S. meeting, 7 a.m.; exercise class, 9:30 a.m.; War Patriots Quilt Display, 10 a.m. to noon; bridge, 12:30 p.m.

Amargosa Valley Senior Center

The menu (subject to change) for the week of July 31-Aug. 4:

One percent milk available daily. Meals are served at the Amargosa Valley Senior Center from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Breakfast served from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Monday — Fish taco, frijoles Charro, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, coleslaw;

Tuesday — Baked meatloaf, mashed potatoes, steamed spinach, lettuce and tomato salad, low-sodium French dressing, whole wheat bread/peach butter, Chantilly fruit cup;

Wednesday — Herb-crusted pork chop, sweet potato, peas, pears, whole wheat roll;

Thursday — Southwest BBQ chicken sandwich, baked beans, corn on the cob, pineapple chunks, apple slices;

Friday — Biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, fresh fruit in season, orange juice.

Beatty Senior Center

The menu (subject to change) for the week of July 31-Aug. 4:

One percent milk available. Meals are served at the Beatty Senior Center from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Tuesday — Chicken pasta primavera, colorful salad, whole wheat garlic bread, orange pineapple mold;

Wednesday – Hot dog, ranch style beans, oven-fried potato wedges, coleslaw, melon in season;

Thursday — Meatball sub on whole wheat roll, cucumber in sour cream, fresh orange, split pea soup.

Beatty burros are burdening town — officials aim to remove some members of massive herd

The Bullfrog Herd Management Area, which includes Beatty, is grossly overpopulated with wild burros. According to previously stated management goals, the population of the animals should be kept to around 80 burros, but it has far exceeded that number for years. The last time a gather was carried out, there were more than 800 burros, and the BLM removed more than 400, which was the capacity of the agency’s holding facilities.
