Amargosa Valley boy arrested on robbery, firearm discharge

An Amargosa Valley boy was arrested on charges of robbery and discharge of a firearm, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office said.

The 17-year-old minor was charged with robbery, possession of stolen property, aiming firearm at a person, possession of a firearm by child under 18 and discharge of a firearm on public land.

On Oct. 14, Nye County Sheriff’s Office deputies were working at a special event at the Amargosa Valley Community Center when they were approached by several citizens reporting that a firearm had been discharged in the vicinity of the facility.

Upon response, deputies found a man who said that he had been robbed at gunpoint by an unknown male.

The victim said that the suspect had pointed a handgun at his head and demanded his necklace before firing his gun into the ground and fleeing the area on foot, according to the press release. The victim wasn’t injured.

The suspect was arrested and turned over to Nye County Juvenile Probation.

Detectives also found the handgun that the suspect used during the crime and the victim’s stolen property.

The news release from the sheriff’s office did not identify the juvenile.
