Earth Day should be every day in our community

Earth Day is upon us, but it needn’t be only one day a year. It should be every day. We all enjoy the beauty of the landscape we live in here in the Pahrump Valley, and should take care of it on a daily basis.

But some of us don’t. Trash flies out of truck beds (I witnessed this the other day), or people think it’s ok to toss a wrapper out their car window (also witnessed). It’s pure laziness to drop trash on our beautiful community (including cigarette butts) when a trash container is as close as a gas station, or we can dispose of trash for free at the dump.

This is not a political issue, a race issue, an income issue, or a loss of freedoms issue. This is strictly one of maintaining pride in our community, and keeping it a good place to live in and visit.

This weekend just go out and pick up some trash in your neighborhood. Do that once a month to keep things up. I know, you didn’t put the trash there, but set that feeling aside and do the right thing.

Lazy locals dumping their trash in recycle bins

Tuesday afternoon, 4/21, I went to the recycling containers in the Walmart parking lot to drop off my paper, plastic and cardboard for recycling.

What is wrong with the people of Pahrump? The containers were overflowing with debris, flies everywhere and the smell was awful. People are dumping their garbage in those containers! It is a real service, provided for us, to recycle paper and plastic; helping the environment and alleviating all the trash that could be filling up our landfill.

The landfill, by the way, is another service for the people of this community. We pay for the use of the landfill through our annual taxes so when you dump your trash, each time, there are no additional charges.

Please quit dumping your garbage in the recycling bins! You are going to ruin it for the rest of us.

D. Nail

EDITORIAL: Biden foreign policy leaves a void on world stage

The world was a relatively stable place when Donald Trump left office in 2021. Since then, the Biden White House signaled repeatedly to our enemies that there is little consequence for international misbehavior.

This has nothing to do with “compassion,” and everything to do with bleeding hearts only looking at surface issues, and not looking at the whole problem.
