Letters to the editor of the Pahrump Valley Times

Are stop signs just a suggestion these days?

Can someone please explain to me the meaning of a red octagonal sign with 4 white letters spelling STOP? Apparently the meaning of this sign has changed since I first took my driving test, and subsequently started driving.

I have seen more people who have disregarded this sign like it doesn’t even exist. Not only have I seen them run in a mobile home park, but also leaving said mobile home park, entering onto a major roadway. Not only are citizens running the stop sign, but delivery drivers are also doing so. I see this day in and day out. What is it gonna take, someone seriously getting injured, or killed, before people realize this sign is there for a reason.

I hope that people will take notice of this and STOP, as the sign suggests.

Praying for those of you who intentionally run the sign, that you aren’t the one who is maimed, or even killed. God forbid it’s one of your kids that gets seriously injured.

Current administration is failing Americans

President Trump is going after Congress and their health benefits due to the inability to govern and look at any options to repeal, replace, or even improve the ACA. I read this and that just like you about how President Trump goes left, then right, then left looking lost. He isn’t lost though. Reading between the lines I see how frustrating D.C. politics are to the non-politician. I believe that those who get elected to represent should work on governing even when legislation does not appeal or appease them specifically. Personally, I see all those serving in Washington failing America and her people by choosing to procrastinate, play politics, and continue to divide Americans and ultimately the American Dream.

As a fellow American,

Democrats are real reason for VEA sale delay

The Democrat “Re-zist” movement in Washington has hit home here in Pahrump. It affects everyone here, Beatty, and Sandy Valley. What I am talking about is the completion of the sale of the Valley Electric transmission line to the grid. Everything is in place to complete the sale except the Federal approval. There is no real problem with the sale other than two members retired and they have no quorum. In 97 years of existence, the FERC (Federal Energy and Power Commission) has never not had a quorum. The appointments to the FERC are being held up in the Senate by the Democrats “Re-zist” movement along with hundreds of other appointments that should have been done already. In fact at the rate the Democrats are holding things up it will take 11 years to get them all done. That is 3 years past Trump’s second term!

I know some say that is a good thing to stop Trump at all costs on all fronts, but that is hurting America. I have pointed out one appointment were 50,000 people are being denied a 10% rate reduction in power costs by the Democrats holding up an appointment in the Senate. This has cost us collectively nearly $6 million of our hard-earned money to this day, and the Senate will be very busy when they get back from vacation working on the debt limit increase (can’t wait for that) and budget.

Please contact our Democrat Senator Cortez Masto and tell her to get their business done and stop hurting America.

Pete Ehrlich
