Pahrump man arrested after allegedly hiding in residence

John Michael Shelton, 49, was taken into custody by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 7 and charged with a preliminary count of stalking/harassment.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 300 block of North Comstock Circle about a male suspect hiding in the closet of a residence.

Upon arrival, the responding deputy was advised that the suspect was now hiding behind a trailer on the property.

The deputy made contact with the suspect, who turned out to be Shelton. A records check showed Shelton had an extended protective order against him and was found to be in violation of the protection order.

The individual who holds the protective order against Shelton lived 297 feet away from the home he was allegedly hiding in, breaking the 300-foot perimeter of the protective order, police said.

The man who lives at the residence Shelton was accused of hiding in said he met him five days prior and never during that time did he give him permission to be in his home. The man requested that the deputy trespass Shelton off his property.

Shelton was placed under arrest and transported to the Nye County Detention Center on the single charge and was being held on $2,500 bond.

Pahrump man arrested for allegedly trying to steal car by force

A man was arrested after being accused of trying to forcibly steal an automobile from the two occupants of the vehicle.

Scott Gene Strahan was arrested by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 8 and charged with preliminary felony counts of grand larceny, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a drug without a prescription and misdemeanor counts of battery and assault.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Desert View Hospital about an alleged carjacking.

Strahan allegedly approached a woman and her blind cousin who were trying to make their way into the hospital. The woman told police that Strahan was yelling for her to take him somewhere but she denied his request.

Strahan then allegedly said he was going to take the female victim’s car and grabbed her by the back of the neck. At that point, the woman tried to strike Strahan, as she was in fear for the safety of her blind cousin and herself, but was unable to hit him. Strahan allegedly fled the scene after the altercation.

While en route, the responding deputy was alerted that the suspect had left the scene and was being followed by a good Samaritan.

The deputy caught up with Strahan at Pahrump Valley and Calvada boulevards.

Upon contact with Strahan, the deputy asked him to step in front of his patrol car, which he did, and was noted to be visibly jumpy, agitated and speaking incoherently, according to police.

The deputy also stated that Strahan was unable to maintain focus on tier conversation, had difficulty answering his questions and was having involuntary spasms.

At one point, Strahan allegedly attempted to walk away from the deputy, stating, “I have a cake at home and my house is going to burn down,” police said.

At that point, the deputy put Strahan in handcuffs and detained him while he furthered his investigation.

After allegedly agreeing to a voluntary search of his person, the deputy discovered drug paraphernalia with an unknown residue and four Escitalopram 10mg pills.

Strahan was placed under arrest and transported to the Nye County Detention Center on the several charges and was being held on $14,420 bond.
