Church presents musical

The Church of the Redeemed will host the fifth annual musical entitled “You Must be Born Again” at 6 p.m. Sept. 4 and 5, in the Bob Ruud Community Center.

The performance will bring various churches together in song. Local performers will be Wings of Love, Sheep Shed Singers, the United Methodist choir and the Second Missionary Baptist Church choir.

Admission is free.

Geri Atkins is the Minister of Music for Church of the Redeemed and organizer for the event.

Nevada Liberty Forum

Nevada Liberty Forum will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Pahrump Community Library.

Unveiling ceremony

The town board, having approved the renaming of Honeysuckle )Park to Ian Deutch Memorial Park on May 11, will present a short ceremony at 9 a.m. Sept. 4 at the corner of Pahrump Valley Boulevard and Honeysuckle Drive to unveil the new marker.

Nye County Deputy Ian Deutch was killed in the line of duty March of this year.

Raffle fundraiser

Storage Solutions has donated a shed and is holding a raffle fundraiser to benefit First Choice Pregnancy Center.

Tickets will be on sale for $2 each or three tickets for $5.

The shed will be on display at the Pahrump Fair & Festival Sept. 24-26.

Actors wanted

EAA delays meeting

Experimental Aircraft Association will delay its meeting by one week. The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 11 in Phil Shallenberger’s hangar, corner of Helicopter Road and Jet Place in the Calvada Aeropark.

The program will feature a talk by Lew Jennings on rebuilding his damaged biplane.

The Pahrump Valley Obedience Club will offer basic obedience and advanced beginners classes in a six-week course.

Kids’ league forming

A Wednesday After School Kids’ League is holding an organizational meeting at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Nugget Bowl.

Bowling will begin at 3:15 p.m. Oct. 6, for middle and high school students. The cost will be three games and shoe rental for $6.

If there is enough interest, an elementary school league is a possibility.

EAA Young Eagles

The Pahrump Chapter of Experimental Aircraft Association will host the sixth Young Eagles rally from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 2, at the Calvada Meadows Airpark, southeast corner of Highway 160 and Simkins Road.

The purpose is to introduce youth ages 8 through 17 to aviation by providing free airplane rides.

Parents or legal guardians must be with the children the entire time they are at the airpark. Bring chairs. Bottled water and portable toilets will be available.

Scout project

Logan Cratty from Boy Scout Troop 235 is working on an Eagle project for our local Department of Child and Family Services. He is collecting overnight items for children who are placed in foster care.

The children are in need of pajamas in sizes 8 to 18, blankets and toiletry items such as shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, etc.

There are drop-off boxes at the LDS church lobby on West Street, CVS Pharmacy and Maple Star at 2280 E. Calvada Blvd., Suite 210.

The goal is to collect at least five hundred items.

VFW schedule

The VFW Post 10054 has the following events scheduled:

• Pancake breakfasts will be from 8 a.m. to noon, Sept. 4 and 18. The cost is $3. Proceeds will go to landscape the front.

• Breakfast is served from 8 to 11 a.m., each Sunday. The cost varies from $3 to $8 and includes coffee and orange juice.

• Dinner is served from 5 to 7 p.m., each Friday. Dinners range from $6 to $8. The second Friday is fish and chips for $7.

The VFW is located at 4651 Homestead Road and is open to the public.

Hearing impaired assistance

Connie Alumbaugh, Ms. Senior Golden Years, USA 2010, is launching a platform to assist citizens of Pahrump and surrounding areas with hearing difficulties.

Alumbaugh, herself hard of hearing, has many resources for equipment, programs and agency contacts for the hearing impaired.

RSVP needs volunteers

RSVP needs drivers to assist seniors in the Pahrump area.

Volunteers transport seniors to local doctor’s offices, shopping, banks and the library.

RSVP provides a mileage stipend to all drivers over 55.

SNAPS transportation

Members of the Ms. Senior Golden Years Queen’s Court will be providing free transportation to owners of pets needing to be spayed or neutered to the low-cost SNAPS clinic.

The mission is to reduce abandoned and stray animals in Pahrump.

SNAPS also provides low-cost vaccinations and has implemented a capture, neuter and return operation for feral cats.

Business training

Rural Nevada Development Corp. will hold a NxLeveL, 12-topic, 42-hour course for entrepreneurs who currently own and want to expand their business.

The class, taught by Allan Parker, a business counselor for RNDC, will be from 5:45 to 9 p.m., on 13 consecutive Mondays beginning Sept. 13 and ending Dec. 6.

Class will be held at the Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce offices upstairs in the Nevada State Bank building.

A fee of $95 will be charged for materials at registration but will be refunded to those who complete their business plans.

Burn Moratorium

Pahrump Valley Fire-Rescue Service has placed a moratorium on burning, effective June 1, due to restrictions placed by BLM and the Department of Forestry. No new burn permits will be issued and existing permits will not be honored until late fall.

Nye County Animal Shelter vouchers

Nye County Animal Shelter will offer low-cost spay or neuter vouchers at $50 for cats and $75 for dogs at the shelter, 171 N. Kitty Hawk Drive.

The fee includes surgery, rabies shot, and in the case of a dog 1 year old, Nye County license.

The program is designed to assist low-income households to sterilize its pets. No one will be turned away.

West Star

West Star Old Dog Rescue and Thrift Store is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, at 780 Manse Road.

West Star II Thrift Store is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 5 p.m.; Friday noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 4951 S. Pahrump Valley Blvd.

The proceeds support the no-kill rescue for dogs and cats. Donations for resale are welcomed.

They ask the public to spay and neuter pets.
